Evan & Tiki: Has Daniel Jones' injury 'put Giants fans out of their misery' this year?

Have Giants fans been put out of their misery of false hope?

Daniel Jones’ knee injury probably puts the final nail in the coffin of the Giants’ season, and maybe Danny Dimes’ career with Big Blue, and leave it to Jets fan Evan to point it out.

“It sucks for Daniel Jones and it sucks for this Giants team, because the season is essentially over at this point,” Tiki said Monday. “You just don't have the talent now to win, so it kind of closes the door on any of the, ‘well, they can figure this thing out’ talk with the New York Giants.”

Evan’s response?

“I think as a fan sometimes you need to be put out of your misery,” he said. “Sometimes you need it so obvious, because even on Friday, when I mentioned to you the Giants are facing a fork in the road, they could win this game and go on a playoff run or this could be an unmitigated disaster…the Raiders went through that Giants defense like no problem.”

The Mets-Jets-Nets fan sadly knows a thing or 12 about that, and he recapped some of the issues the G-Men had Sunday even before Jones was hurt, saying, “that effort that we saw to begin this game was beyond pathetic.”

And maybe, at least in ex-Giant Tiki’s mind, now, we can have sympathy for Jones?

“The Giants fan actually feels sympathy for Daniel Jones; instead of having ire and disappointment and question marks around who he is and what he's going to be this year or in the future, there's actually like a sympathetic voice for Daniel Jones,” Tiki said. “We don’t, as Giants fans, now have to criticize him and speculate about what the future is for the New York Giants at quarterback. It’s not Daniel Jones; you’re not saying move off from him, not saying that, but he's not the future, and in some ways, that’s liberating for Daniel Jones.”

Evan, to his credit, at least believes that if that is the case, the Giants fan will eventually look back at the Danny Dimes era fondly?

“I totally get what you're saying,” Evan said, “and I think that if we never see him play another snap for the New York Giants, which is certainly on the table, that most Giant fans would at least have a positive feeling towards Daniel Jones when they think back about him 15 or 20 years from now.”
