Gio: Jets should part with first-round picks in a heartbeat for Aaron Rodgers

Some Jets fans may want to go after a free agent quarterback rather than swinging a big trade for an aging Aaron Rodgers, considering the future Hall of Famer is going to command multiple first-round picks in return.

But Gio would give up those picks in a heartbeat, and thinks the Jets should as well.

“You’ve got those guys on the team now,” Gio said, referencing recent first-round picks like Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson. “You’ve built through the draft, you’ve got a good team, you’re missing one thing. It’s the quarterback.”

The Jets don’t need to cling to those draft picks, as they just need a great quarterback to launch the team into contention. So, it’s important for Joe Douglas and company to prioritize the present, as this team is ready to win, especially while it’s young core is still under manageable salaries to keep them together.

“Unless you think you’re gonna turn one of those first-round picks into a great quarterback, which this organization has never done, then you gotta go get Aaron Rodgers,” Gio said.
