After a frustrating series loss to the lowly Rockies, the Mets are back at .500 as they begin a stretch that includes series with the rival Phillies and Braves.
Boomer has multiple concerns when it comes to the 2023 Mets, but if he were in charge of turning things around, the first thing he would do is find a new DH.
“You gotta get rid of Daniel Vogelbach,” Boomer said. “He can’t play a position, and how many times has he looked at a pitch right down the middle?
“I hate getting on guys’ cases, but how much longer are we going to look at this?”
Of course, the Mets have other concerns outside of Vogelbach.
“The only thing that bothers me, other than having a guy who is half a DH, I really worry about the bullpen,” Boomer said. “It keeps me up at night.”
Despite those concerns, Boomer also believes that as long as the Mets get hot at the right time, they’ll be fine.
“The National league stinks,” Boomer said. “They’re gonna be in the mix the whole way, and it’s just gonna be whether they get hot in September.”
