Keith tired of Aaron Boone's 'corny' ejection tirades: 'Same old song and dance'

Aaron Boone added to his league-leading ejection total on Monday night, pulling off one of his most memorable tirades yet when he drew a line well off home plate and mocked home plate umpire Laz Diaz’s punchout gesture.

Boone, clearly not happy with Diaz’s strike zone all night, went viral again for his tantrum, and while some see it as a refreshing change from Boone’s sometimes monotonous and overly optimistic demeanor before and after games, Keith says the tirades have gotten old.

“I’m just tired of the whole show,” Keith said. “It’s corny. I’m tired of the same old song and dance with Boone.

“I thought it was funny…that’s gonna be all over social media and the internet. But what’s also gonna be all over the internet is that the Yankees lost.”

Boone’s antics were much more enjoyable when the Yankees were winning, like during his famous “Savages in the box” routine in 2019, but now, it doesn’t spark any kind of energy for Keith, and says it likely only puts the team in a bad spot with umpires.

“You thought you were gonna fire up the troops? Aaron Boone goes out there to lead the league in ejections…if your manager’s MO is that he tightens up the umps and gets his money’s worth, but he doesn’t have that same energy towards his team and with the press…what good is it to have the whole umpire union, nation, collective against you?” Keith said. “The umps have been against the Yankees since Brett Gardner was banging his bat against the dugout roof. That doesn’t help you."
