As Aaron Judge continues to rise up the big-league ranks, and is now neck-and-neck with surging Mike Trout in the WAR department, Craig Carton knows just what the Yankees should do when it comes to his contract situation.
The answer? Don’t do anything, though it might not be for the reason you think.
“To me, it’s very simple: nothing,” Craig said when it came to what Brian Cashman and the Yanks should do about their franchise star’s pending free agency. “I don’t offer Aaron Judge another nickel. I don’t offer him another year, I don’t even return his agent’s phone call.”
Now, this isn’t because Craig doesn’t believe Judge is deserving of a big payday. But if Judge is leading the league in home runs after turning down the team’s contract offer, maybe they should continue to let him play without a deal so he continues to rake and help solidify the team’s hold atop the AL East.
Sounds like a solid plan!
“If this is what it takes for that guy to have a second career year, good,” Craig said. “Why would I want to f that up?”
