OPINION: Fooled around, found out

The Bills came out flat and never got going in their loss Sunday to the Patriots

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - As if last week's horror movie of a nail-biter win against the New York Giants wasn’t enough, the Buffalo Bills rolled into Foxboro on Sunday to play the under siege New England Patriots on Sunday and missed the 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

What’s that? You’re telling me the Bills actually showed up for the first half? I mean, OK, if you say so, but I could’ve sworn the Bills didn’t actually show until about 3 p.m. ET.

Backing up an effort that saw you barely survive one of the worst offenses in the NFL with another effort like this is a heck of a move, I’ll give ‘em that much.

If you were following along this week, you know that Boston was basically burning leading up to the game. The legendary coach’s future is in question. The quarterback was on life support.

Coming into this game, the Patriots were circling the drain. Inept and lacking high-end athleticism on both sides of the ball, buzzards were aggressively circling in anticipation of the feast that picking through the demise of the most successful regime in NFL history would provide.

The Bills' offense can’t keep waiting until deep in the game to move the ball and score points. There definitely deserves to be plenty of criticism sent their way.

A postgame show caller on Sunday night suggested running more up-tempo, no-huddle type stuff earlier in the game, and I’m here for trying that. These past two games have seen the Bills' offense seemingly jump-started by the urgency created by a more up-tempo pacing to the offense.

I know the Bills' defense is down some really significant talent, but the Patriots are terrible and also very injured.

I’ll put it this way with the defense in this game: It’s possible that New England is fielding the least-threatening offense we’ve ever seen. The quarterback has an average arm and isn’t a great athlete. The skill position guys are slow, and their offensive line has been wrecked by injuries.

I still can’t believe that team drove 75 yards to a game-winning touchdown against the Bills.

So, now what?

Well, fun times, because there’s another game on Thursday back at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Rest up, everyone.
