Following his Week 7 performance against the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes has been named as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

The 32-year-old pass rusher put up one of the best games he's played in quite some time this past week, picking up six total tackles, two sacks, three quarterback hits, a forced fumble and his first career interception.

This is the first time that Hughes has been named as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in his 11-year career in the NFL. Hughes also becomes the first Bills defensive player to be honored as the Player of the Week since cornerback Tre'Davious White earned the honor last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.

Hughes joins quarterback Josh Allen as the only other Bills play this season to be named as an AFC Player of the Week. Allen was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 2 performance against the Miami Dolphins in South Florida.

Despite kicking six field goals on eight attempts on Sunday, Bills kicker Tyler Bass was not named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. That honor went to Kansas City Chiefs kick returner Byron Pringle.

The Bills will host the New England Patriots (2-4) this Sunday at Bills Stadium in Orchard Park.
