The Buffalo Bills lost a key part of their offense late in the third quarter of Monday night's loss to the Tennessee Titans when tight end Dawson Knox left the contest with a hand injury. After originally being listed as questionable to return, the third-year tight end was officially ruled out of the game a short time later in the fourth quarter.
As first reported by NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo on Tuesday, Knox ended up suffering a broken bone in his hand. Head coach Sean McDermott ended up confirming the report during his meeting with the Buffalo media later that afternoon
"Dawson did suffer a fracture of his hand. Don't know much more at this point, other than we'll just monitor it. We'll see where it goes here," McDermott said.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Knox had successful surgery on Tuesday to repair the fracture in his hand, and the hope is he can return to the field as soon as possible.
However, Garafolo added to Rapoport's report on Wednesday, saying that it could be a few weeks before Knox will be able to return to play for the Bills.
Luckily for Buffalo, the team is currently on their bye week, which will hopefully mean extra rest time for Knox to allow the hand to heal.
It is unclear as to which play Knox suffered his hand injury in the third quarter, but before exiting the game, he did help the Bills convert a two-point conversion to extend their lead to 31-24.
The 24-year-old is off to a hot start to the 2021 season, reeling in 21 passes for 286 yards and already five touchdowns. He has developed into one of the most reliable targets for quarterback Josh Allen through six games, and has really worked on his game to be another key weapon for the Buffalo offense.
Knox was held to a relatively quiet night on Monday before leaving the game, catching three passes on three targets for 25 yards.
