Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Sabres finally got the proper documentation that defenseman Lawrence Pilut had been released from his KHL team in Russia.
With that confirmation, the Sabres announced Friday they have signed Pilut to a one-year contract worth $750,000.
Pilut spent two years in the Sabres' pipeline, playing 67 games with the Rochester Americans and 46 games with Buffalo. He was unhappy with his status inside the organization, and as a restricted free agent, he signed a contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk.
In his two years in Russia, he had seven goals and 32 assists for 39 points in 97 games.
At the NHL level, the 26-year-old has a goal and five assists for six points.
Pilut will likely start the 2022-23 season in Rochester, providing the Sabres with even more depth on defense.
