An investigation is underway in Luzerne County after a body was discovered in a creek on Monday. According to Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes, the remains were located in a waterway along Route 315, specifically near the MotorWorld used car lot in Plains Township. Emergency responders and investigators arrived on the scene Monday afternoon to secure the area and begin the process of identifying the individual.
The coroner has identified the deceased as a male in his 50s, though his name has not yet been released pending notification of his family. An autopsy has been scheduled for today to determine both the cause and manner of death. While authorities are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding how the body ended up in the creek, they have not yet stated whether they believe foul play was involved. Local police are asking anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the area over the last several days to contact investigators.
