KINGSTON — A late-night fire at a double-block house on North Welles Street claimed the life of a juvenile boy and left another seriously injured on Wednesday. Firefighters arrived at the scene just after 11:30 p.m. to find intense flames consuming the front of the residence. A father and daughter were forced to jump from a second-floor window to escape the blaze, while crews rescued two boys, aged 11 and 13, from the building. One boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was rushed to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for treatment. The boys were students in the Wyoming Valley West School District. Investigators, including state police deputy fire marshals, believe the fire originated on the first floor of the unit where the family of five resided, though the cause does not appear to be suspicious. Eight local fire departments assisted in battling the second-alarm fire, which also caused minor damage to an adjacent home.
