LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – Democrat Mark Bufalino has won the race for a newly created 11th judgeship on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, according to unofficial election results from Tuesday.
Bufalino, a longtime area attorney, bested his Republican opponent, Tom Mosca, in the closely watched judicial contest.
With all 186 precincts reporting, Bufalino secured the victory with 53% of the vote. The creation of the new judicial seat was prompted by a surge in court filings and will be accompanied by an expansion of courtroom space at the Luzerne County Courthouse. Bufalino will help the existing judges manage the heavy caseload.
The new judgeship carries a 10-year term and comes with an annual salary of $227,411
