New devices in the city of Wilkes Barre are cracking down on illegal parking in the city. 10 "SafetySticks" have been installed. The cameras inside of the gray poles will transmit time stamped photos of vehicles and license plates. Municipal Parking Services, who will be handling the parking enforcement, will then review the information and citations would be issued. They are looking for those who park illegally in handicapped spots, block a fire hydrant, park too close to a bus stop or corner among others. The devices and monitoring were of no cost to the city and are solar powered.
