A Harrisburg area firm will assess and review Lackawanna County’s information and cybersecurity program ahead of a nearly $5 million project to upgrade aging switches, servers and other equipment. The Lackawanna County Commissioners unanimously approved last week a $6,750 contract with Hinton and Associates IT Consultants to conduct the security assessment, which will include internal and external vulnerability scans and a review of the county’s current IT infrastructure, proposed upgrades and cybersecurity policies and procedures. County Chief Financial Officer David Bulzoni noted the recent ransomware attack that hit the Scranton School District, whose website remained offline Friday. Officials have not said how much money the attackers may have demanded or what district information may have been accessed.
