PARADISE TOWNSHIP, PA — An 89-year-old Lackawanna County woman has died one week after the vehicle she was riding in plunged into a retention pond at a Monroe County casino, marking the second death resulting from the crash.
Jeanette Radzikowski, of Dickson City, passed away on Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg. The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death as accidental, resulting from blunt force trauma.
The fatal crash occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. on July 29 on the grounds of the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Paradise Township. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the vehicle struck a small rock curb before going airborne over an embankment and becoming submerged in a nearby retention pond.
First responders rescued Radzikowski from the submerged car and rushed her to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle, 82-year-old John Radzikowski Jr., also of Dickson City, was pronounced dead at the scene after being recovered from the submerged car by emergency personnel. State police confirmed no other individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by state police.
