Fire crews battled flames at a former church building in Hazleton late Saturday night.
According to officials, firefighters were called to the former St. Paul’s Church at the corner of North Laurel and West Green streets just before 10 p.m. The fire broke out on the building’s third floor, and aerial devices were used to attack the flames from above.
A fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze. No injuries were immediately reported.
Officials said smoke from the fire caused damage to the nearby Hazleton Library, forcing it to close today as cleanup and assessments are conducted.
