Tense moments unfolded in Luzerne County early Monday as heavy rain triggered flash flooding, forcing the evacuation of a summer camp in Fairmount Township.
Emergency crews responded to the flooding in the Patterson Grove area, one of the hardest-hit spots, where rising waters left many campers trapped inside their cottages. Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency coordinated the response and helped bring people to safety.
Campers were guided to dry ground, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Officials say the floodwaters surged through quickly, catching some by surprise. The situation is now under control, but cleanup efforts are underway as the area recovers from the sudden flooding.
