HAZLETON, PA — Hazleton Police are investigating a series of recent incidents in which students walking home from school have been targeted by individuals demanding their jewelry. According to a statement from the department, the situations appear to involve juveniles being approached and pressured to hand over gold chains before the suspects flee the area.

In response to the thefts, police are urging parents and students to take extra safety precautions. The Hazleton Police Department recommends that students walk with friends and stick to main, well-lit roads and populated areas. They also advise children not to engage with people they don't know and to trust their instincts—if a situation feels unsafe, they should immediately seek a safe location and call 911.

The department is also asking parents to be vigilant and to contact law enforcement immediately if their child reports any suspicious or concerning encounters. These measures are being suggested as a way to prevent further incidents while the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the individuals responsible for these thefts. Anyone with information about the incidents is encouraged to contact the Hazleton City Police Department directly or to submit an anonymous tip through their Crimewatch page.
