A 28-year-old Mountain Top man faces felony aggravated assault charges and multiple traffic violations following a multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash on State Route 309 in Ashley Borough.

According to Ashley Borough police, Carmine Angelo Conforto was driving a white 2025 Chevrolet Corvette on Friday night when he rear-ended two vehicles stopped at a traffic light near the intersection of State Route 309 and Hazleton Street. Investigators reported that Conforto initially exited his vehicle and told those involved that he could not afford to pay for the damage before getting back inside his car to flee the scene.

When a bystander tried to intervene and stop him from leaving, Conforto accelerated, dragging the witness for a distance until the individual fell to the ground. Responding officers from neighboring Fairview, Wright, and Rice townships later located Conforto at his home in Mountain Top, where he was taken into custody. In addition to aggravated assault, Conforto faces charges of hit-and-run involving personal injury and numerous summary traffic offenses.
