Lackawanna and Luzerne counties have reached a tentative, two-year agreement to provide consistent law enforcement coverage to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP).
According to officials, the new security plan calls for the airport to be staffed with police officers from surrounding municipalities seven days a week, covering a 14-hour period from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The financial structure of the agreement specifies how the costs for this coverage will be divided:
The airport will cover half (50%) of the total costs.
Lackawanna County will cover 25%.
Luzerne County will cover the remaining 25%.
Officials stated that once the agreement is formally signed by all parties involved, the new security protocol will go into effect immediately, ensuring dedicated law enforcement presence during the airport's primary operating hours.
