The Lackawanna County Board of Assessment Appeals began formal hearings for new property valuations today. The hearings are being held on the first floor of the Marketplace at Steamtown, located between the Electric City Aquarium and the Lehigh Valley Health Network clinic.
The board, along with four other assessment boards, will conduct these hearings on weekdays through October. According to county officials, they have received just over 4,000 appeals from property owners seeking a review of their new valuations.
These hearings are a crucial step in the reassessment process, allowing property owners to formally challenge the county's valuation of their properties. The reassessment, the first in over 50 years, has resulted in significant changes to property values across the county. Property owners with scheduled appeals should attend their hearings to present their case.
