SCRANTON, PA — Drivers in Lackawanna County should prepare for potential traffic slowdowns on Interstate 81 this week as PennDOT begins essential infrastructure maintenance. Starting Wednesday and continuing through Thursday, crews will be implementing lane restrictions on both the northbound and southbound sides of the highway to conduct detailed retaining wall inspections.

The work is concentrated on a busy stretch of the interstate between Exit 187, which connects to Interstate 84/380 toward Mount Pocono and Milford, and Exit 185, the President Biden Expressway. To minimize the impact on morning and evening commutes, PennDOT has scheduled the restrictions to take place between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day.

While the work is limited to midday hours, motorists are still encouraged to allow for extra travel time or consider alternate routes during the inspection window. PennDOT officials remind drivers to remain alert for workers and changing traffic patterns when traveling through these active work zones.
