A woman is dead following a fire Saturday afternoon on Locust Street in Hazleton, A post on the Hazleton Fire Department Facebook page confirmed that the victim, later identified by Hazleton Police as 83-year-old Kathleen Herchel, was found inside the residence was transferred to EMS and then transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she later died. A second resident, who wasn’t home at the time, is staying with friends and family. The cause of that fire in Hazleton is under investigation.
