WILKES-BARRE, PA — Authorities have released the identity of the man who died following a shooting in the 400 block of Coal Street last Monday. The Luzerne County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 25-year-old Bryan Mejia of Wilkes-Barre. His death has been officially ruled a suicide.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on January 5, 2026, in a parking lot near the Odyssey Fitness Center. When Wilkes-Barre police arrived at the scene, they discovered a white Honda CR-V with two victims. Mejia was found in the driver's seat suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.


A 25-year-old woman was also found at the scene, lying on the ground outside the passenger side of the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the left side of her head. She was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment and remains hospitalized. While the investigation into the full circumstances of the shooting continues, police have described the event as an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.
