Residents in South Canaan were cleaning up after a severe storm swept through Wayne County on Tuesday afternoon, knocking down tree limbs and blowing around outdoor items outside homes. Emergency officials issued a tornado warning for the area after receiving reports of rotation observed near Easton Turnpike during the height of the storm.
While severe weather caused localized damage across the region, officials have not yet confirmed whether a tornado actually touched down. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service are scheduled to conduct a formal storm survey in the South Canaan area later today to inspect the damage path and determine the nature and intensity of the wind event.
