The structures include high-traffic spans that carry tens of thousands of vehicles daily, with condition, traffic volume, structure age, and weight restrictions documented across county-level inspection data.
Regional Highlights from the Data:
- Highest Volume of Poor Bridges: Luzerne County leads the region in overall count, with 115 of its 695 total bridges (16.5%) rated in poor condition.
- Highest Percentage of Poor Bridges: Wayne County holds the highest proportion of degraded infrastructure, with 21.8% of its bridges—84 out of 386 structures—classified as poor.
The report comes as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) advances a record $655 million investment in road and bridge construction across District 4, which includes plans to address over 200 state-owned bridge structures.
