New way to alert residents near the Berwick power plant

The Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in Berwick has been using sirens as its primary emergency alert system for decades. Now that siren system will be replaced with a FEMA ipaws Wireless Emergency Alert System effective on April 1st. The system will automatically send cell phone alerts without the need to subscribe or download an app. Luzerne and Columbia County residents can also sign up for code red emergency alerts to their cell phones and landlines.
