Pennsylvania lawmakers are one step closer to lifting the state’s long-standing ban on Sunday hunting.

On Wednesday, the State House approved a bill that would fully repeal the ban, with a vote of 131 to 72. The legislation now heads to the State Senate for consideration.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission supports the change, saying it would give them the authority to include Sundays in the annual hunting season schedule.

But not everyone is on board. Brook Lender, executive director of the Keystone Trails Association, says the move would eliminate the one day a week when hikers can safely enjoy the outdoors without worrying about hunters or gunfire.

He told PennLive, “We should be allowed to enjoy Penn’s woods without risk of being hit by a bullet or hearing gunfire.”

Lender also warns the change could discourage hikers and cyclists from using Pennsylvania trails on Sundays.
