Following Election Day, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro joined WILK’s Nancy and Jason this morning to break down the Democratic sweep that delivered the party a full governing trifecta in Harrisburg. Addressing voter concerns about overreach, Shapiro pushed back on the idea of running to political extremes, emphasizing that his administration will focus on a "common-sense" agenda. He highlighted top priorities for his second term, including raising the state minimum wage to $15 an hour, expanding affordable housing, repairing roads and bridges, and funding mass transit.
Looking down the road at broader legislative efforts, Shapiro expressed optimism about legalizing, regulating, and taxing adult-use recreational marijuana with strict guardrails. He also committed to asking lawmakers to codify his executive order giving local municipalities veto power over massive data center projects—a policy he credited directly to the advocacy of residents in Archbald, Pennsylvania. When asked about potential future presidential aspirations, Shapiro brushed off the speculation, noting that just 72 hours out from the election, his sole focus remains on spending time with his family, working with legislative leaders, and rolling out an aggressive 100-day governing plan for the Commonwealth.
