Scranton police have released the identity of a man arrested Monday morning following a stolen vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash and a foot chase through the city's Green Ridge section. Investigators identified the driver as 36-year-old Sergio Faundez of Exeter. According to Scranton Police, the incident began during a routine patrol when officers spotted a vehicle that had previously been reported stolen out of Olyphant. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Faundez allegedly fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was later discovered crashed along the 1600 block of Jefferson Avenue, but Faundez had already abandoned the wreckage and fled into the neighborhood on foot. Following a brief search, officers located and apprehended the suspect several blocks away from the collision site. Police confirm that Faundez remains in custody as the active investigation continues, with additional criminal charges currently pending against him.
