GREAT BEND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police have released the identities of the three men shot and killed Monday night in northern Susquehanna County, confirming that one of the victims was the suspect's uncle.

The victims have been identified as:

  • Philip Johnson, 53, of Hallstead (the suspect's uncle)
  • Kevin Igo, 38, of Susquehanna
  • Frank Talarico, 31, of Binghamton, New York

The suspect, 29-year-old Garrett Austin Johnson of Great Bend Township, was arraigned just before 6 a.m. Tuesday on three counts of criminal homicide, along with charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, and recklessly endangering another person.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by investigators, a specific motive for the shootings has not yet been determined.

Johnson was taken into custody a short distance from the Great Bend Township home where the shootings occurred, and state police confirmed they recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.

Johnson remains lodged without bail at the Lackawanna County Prison. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 20.
