Honesdale, PA – Wayne County residents are being urged to be on high alert for a man impersonating a county detective and attempting to intimidate individuals with threats of arrest if they do not comply with his demands.

According to the Wayne County District Attorney's office, a man has been falsely identifying himself as "Detective Charlie Macky" with the Wayne County detective bureau. Officials have confirmed that there is no individual by that name employed as a Wayne County Detective within their department.

The District Attorney's office emphasized a crucial warning: legitimate law enforcement officers will never demand money, gift cards, or any form of payment in exchange for dismissing criminal charges or to prevent an arrest. This is a hallmark sign of a scam.

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a Wayne County Detective and asking for money or threatening immediate apprehension, you are advised to report it immediately. Do not engage with the caller or provide any personal information or funds.

To report such an incident, please contact the Wayne County District Attorney's office directly at 570-253-4912.
