Board members of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital are speaking out against a proposed deal that could see the facility — along with Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton — sold to a California-based nonprofit health care company.
Just days ago, Tenor Health Foundation announced it had signed a letter of intent to purchase all three hospitals. But Wilkes-Barre General’s board members, along with State Representative Bridget Kosierowski, say they are concerned about Tenor Health’s lack of experience in managing multiple hospitals.
Another major worry is how the hospital’s finances would be handled under the new ownership. Board members fear that money generated by Wilkes-Barre General would not be reinvested into the hospital itself, but instead be redirected to support Moses Taylor Hospital and the Regional Hospital of Scranton.
The proposed sale remains in the early stages, with no final agreement announced.
