WEST PITTSTON, PA — A local firefighter was hospitalized late last night after falling from a ladder while battling a residential structure fire that displaced a family of five.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 500 block of Luzerne Avenue just before 11:00 p.m. following reports of flames breaking out in a second-floor bedroom. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered active fire venting from the upper level of the home.

Five occupants were inside the home when the fire began. Authorities confirmed that all five family members were able to evacuate the burning structure safely. No injuries to the residents were reported.

Firefighter Injury

The focus of the scene shifted briefly when a West Pittston firefighter, engaged in operations on the exterior of the building, fell from a ladder positioned at the second floor.

The firefighter sustained a leg injury as a result of the fall. Fellow first responders provided immediate on-site care before he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of this morning, an official update on his condition has not been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal's office.
