BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Hazy smoke from Canadian wildfires is moving into Northeast Pennsylvania this Wednesday, bringing potential visibility challenges and health risks for sensitive groups.
According to the National Weather Service, the wildfire smoke is beginning to settle closer to the surface today. NWS Meteorologist Bryan Greenblatt expects the haze to linger through Thursday, with its exact duration depending heavily on shifting wind directions.
While the haze may impact outdoor activities and air quality for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, Greenblatt stressed that conditions are not expected to reach the extreme levels seen in June 2023, when dense smoke famously turned regional skies orange.
