The Wilkes Barre Fire Department now has a new pumper engine as part of its fleet. The $850,000 pumper fire engine arrived at Wilkes Barre Fire Department Headquarters on East Ross Street yesterday and that’s where it will be stationed. The new equipment also comes with custom safety and longevity features. They include, a battery powered jaws of life, a water intake port making hook up at a hydrant faster and easier, and airbags to protect crewmembers in case of a crash to name a few. The sale of city owned property will pay for the engine which will be serving the entire downtown area, much of the Heights, and parts of South Wilkes Barre and Rolling Mill Hill.
