An investigation is underway after a man was shot by police during a domestic violence incident in Wilkes-Barre late Monday night. Police were called to a home along East Beatty Street after a report of a woman with a gun held to her head. The woman was able to get out of the home and spoke to officers when they arrived, saying that the man who threatened her had two guns. Shawn Adams of Wilkes-Barre, exited with a gun in his hand but quickly went back inside. He eventually exited again, dropped his hands, turned away, and reached for his waist. One officer then shot him in the arm, and he went back into his home. Police saw Adams in an upstairs window with a larger gun. He exited for a third time, and an officer tased him and took him into custody. Adams was taken to the hospital for his injuries, and was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and related charges. A review of Adams’ criminal history reveals that he was convicted in 1996 for criminal homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
