HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Attorney General William Tong says it's full speed ahead for the state of Connecticut's lawsuit against Stamford-based Purdue Pharma.
Connecticut's lawsuit is one of multiple which allege the drug maker and its controlling family helped create the nationwide opioid crisis. The company agreed to pay $270 million to settle a similar suit brought by the state of Oklahoma on Tuesday.
Tong, just back from a strategy meeting in San Diego with fellow attorneys general, does not believe the Oklahoma settlement changes things in terms of Connecticut's lawsuit.
"We're continuing to pursue, very strongly and aggressively, our action against Purdue Pharma and members of the Sackler family... who we think are responsible for the national epidemic of opioid abuse and this crisis."
Tong says suggestions that Purdue may file for bankruptcy to avoid legal payouts does make matters more complicated, but he asserts such an action would not derail the lawsuit.
Purdue is currently the target of nearly 2,000 lawsuits nationwide.
