GROTON, Conn. (AP) — The Navy submarine base in Groton, Connecticut, is getting a new commanding officer.

At a ceremony Friday at the base Navy Capt. Todd Moore will be sworn in to succeed Capt. Paul Whitescarver, who is retiring from the Navy after 39 years of service.

Moore is a native of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, and most recently served as commander of USS Montpelier, an attack submarine.

Whitescarver has served since 2015 as commander of the base, which is the homeport for 15 attack submarines.

The speakers at the ceremony are expected to include Gov. Ned Lamont. It is not open to the public.
