DPH Investigating Confirmed Cases of Deadly Disease at Local Nursing Facility

ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTIC) - The Department of Public Health is investigating cases of a deadly disease at a Rocky Hill nursing facility.

DPH is currently coordinating a response at Apple Rehab, Inc. to two confirmed cases of Legionnaires' Disease.

The disease is a bacterial infection caused by exposure to the Legionella Bacteria.  Two cases have been confirmed among residents and one patient recently died.

The DPH was notified on July 17th of a resident suffering from the disease and that bacteria was also found in water samples tested by the facility as well.
