HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - The Hartford Yard Goats are going peanut free this year.

The AA Baseball team will no longer sell peanuts or Cracker Jacks at Dunkin' Donuts Park, to make the stadium more accessible to those who are allergic.

Yard Goats broadcaster Jeff Dooley recalled to the WTIC Morning Show a meeting between two moms and the Yard Goats' president Tim Restall and general manager Mike Abramson. The mothers' children loved baseball, but due to peanut allergies, they couldn't attend games in Hartford.

Dooley mentioned that eliminating peanuts entirely from the stadium is the best was to ensure safety for those fans who may be allergic.

"I think two nights a year, we had a peanut free [game], and when we do that, we we try to clean those sections, but you just never know if a shell is going to pop up. It's very concerning to parents."

While many pro sports teams have peanut free sections or games, Dooley says the Yard Goats are the first to stop selling them altogether.
