(Hartford, Conn.WTIC) - The family of a murdered Windsor man has been dealt a legal blow after they file a challenge against a nephew looking to get his hands on an inheritance from the victim.

A probate judge in New Hampshire has ruled that John Chakalos, found shot to death in his Windsor home in 2013, was not a resident of the Granite State as was argued by Nathan Carman's aunts.

The aunts filed the challenge under the slayer petition.  That would have barred Carman from receiving millions in inheritance money as the only heir to his mother Linda Carman.

She disappeared during a fishing trip with Nathan nearly three years ago.

The aunts say Chakalos had a home and voted in New Hampshire.

They further allege that Nathan Carman killed his grandfather and mother for the inheritance.

In statement, Carman's aunts say they're considering future options, adding that Nathan Carman has avoiding answering question about what they say is damning evidence against him.
