Hartford, Conn. (WTIC) - The third annual nationwide Women's March took place Saturday, where thousands of protestors and activists demonstrated across the county.

In Connecticut, Women's March CT held a march and rally.  The march started at Corning Fountain and arrived at the steps of the State Capital Building.

Sharlene Kerelejza, of Women's March Connecticut, said this year's event has two principle themes - unity and equity.

"This is really a community event that holds up every single part of our culture and society to be able to talk about what we need, what we're facing and what the struggles are," said Kerelejza.  "So this is really a great opportunity to learn more about our neighbors."

This year's Women's March is part of the social media movement #WomensWave, as several partners, activists and artists spoke at the rally to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the movement's launch.

The first Women's March, held in 2017, occurred a day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump.  It was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history.
