(Waterbury,Conn./WTIC Radio) -A man barricaded himself in residence at 364 Mill Street in Waterbury Tuesday afternoon when members of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force North West Office , assisted by Waterbury Police attempted to serve a narcotics related search warrant.When police arrived shortly before 2 pm, the suspect, 34 year old Mathhew Carr, was outside and Troopers and officers attempted to detain him before he went into the home.
There was a physical struggle and a TASER was deployed to subdue Carr.He was able to break free and barricaded himself inside with an assault rifle.
The area was secured and police sent out a reverse 9-1-1 call to residents to shelter in place and notified nearby schools.
After about an hour of dialogue between Waterbury Police and Carr, he surendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
A small amount of suspected crack cocaine , seven rifles, several extended magazines and a large amount of ammunution were seized.
Carr is facing charges related to interference with the court authorized search and seizure warrant.More charges are expected.
The investigation is ongoing.
