CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference says school football and other sports are on for the fall season.
In the State Department of Public Health's latest letter to the C.I.A.C., it does not recommend playing volleyball as a moderate-risk indoor sport nor football as a high-risk outdoor sport. The C.I.A.C. is arguing that recommendation is inconsistent with the ReOpen CT guidelines for a non-interscholastic sport, which have been permitting indoor moderate-risk and outdoor high-risk sport activities since July 6, 2020.
Starting Saturday, August 29, 2020, sport activities will be restricted to low-risk conditioning and non-contact skill work in groups no larger than ten people through September 20, 2020. If COVID-19 metrics remain low, full-team practices can begin September 21, 2020. Under the plan, games and contests are set to begin on October 1, 2020.
C.I.A.C. officials say they will continue to monitor COVID-19 statistics and adjust the plans as necessary.
