HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Department of Consumer Protection ordered the immediate suspension of the liquor permit and the premises closed of a Hartford nightclub Tuesday following a shooting that left one person dead and four others wounded Sunday.

In a summary suspension order released Tuesday afternoon, the DCP said it found that public health, safety and welfare imperatively required emergency action, leading to the suspension of Majestic Lounge on Franklin Avenue.

Commissioner of Consumer Protection Michelle Seagull said in the order, "We find that the February 16, 2020 shooting, in conjunction with the premise being a known 'Hot Spot' for police, demonstrates that the premise is operated in a manner that imperils public safety and demonstrates the need for better control of the premise by the permittee, backer, or their agents."

According to the order, Hartford Interim Chief of Police Jason Thody sent a letter to Seagull notifying her of the incident that took place after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police arrested Joshua Saez, 30, in connection to the shooting. Police say Saez is charged with the murder of 28-year-old Marquis Treadwell of Hartford.

There were four other gunshot victims, according to police, with one 19-year-old woman, another woman, and two men. Police say some injuries were deemed critical.

The DCP said the suspension and closure is pending proceedings for revocation or other action.

The permit was first issued on May 26, 2017 and according to the DCP, it was renewed annually with the current permit set to expire on May 25, 2020.
