HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Public Health Committee convened in an emergency meeting Wednesday to discuss Governor Ned Lamont's declaration of a public health emergency.
State Senate President Martin Looney says the declaration is in effect until September 9, unless Lamont lifts it beforehand.
The declaration authorizes the commissioner of Public Health to delegate powers of isolation or quarantine to district public health officials.
Local municipalities, health and education officials are directed to follow previously issued guidance in making decisions for public gatherings or travel, Looney says.
According to officials, the committee will be serving an advisory role for the governor's office while the declaration is in effect.
