MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut State Police sergeant who crashed his unmarked cruiser following a retirement party at a brewery in September has now been suspendedSgt. John McDonald was taken off the job Thursday, according to officials."He is on paid leave, but he's been stripped of his police powers-- his badge, his gun and his police ID," said agency spokesman Brian Foley.It was on September 25, that authorities say an off-duty McDonald ran a stop sign on Route 188 in Southbury, and slammed into a car containing a mother and her daughter. A field sobriety test was not conducted. McDonald had previously attended a retirement party at a brewery in Oxford.Foley says criminal, accident, and internal investigations are ongoing.

"It's important to note, that this is the first of what I expect to be many more developments in this ongoing investigation," he added.
