WATERTOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Watertown police arrested an 88-year-old man who allegedly threatened to shoot his nephew at Stonybrook Construction on Echo Lake Road Extension Monday afternoon.

Police charged Daniel Cashman of Waterbury with breach of peace and threatening after employees called to report the incident.

Officials report Cashman entered the lobby of Stonybrook Construction looking for his nephew with a gun strapped to his hip and what appeared to be a police badge.

Police say Cashman explained he was going to shoot his nephew for allegedly stealing a few items from him, including two suits and a cane, and for damaging his cuckoo clock. Cashman reportedly said he didn't want to kill his nephew, only shoot him in the leg.

Employees tell police Cashman looked confused and nonsensical. Employees also say Cashman never unholstered the gun.

When employees told Cashman his nephew was not working in the building at that time, Cashman allegedly thanked the employees for their time and said he'd return the next day.

Watertown and Waterbury police later located Cashman at his residence in Waterbury.

Officials say Cashman voluntarily surrendered his valid Connecticut Pistol Permit. Watertown detectives recovered Cashman's gun with a search and seize warrant.

Cashman was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on August 20.
