WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The town of West Hartford is implementing new parking restrictions on select streets in West Hartford Center starting on December 9.
Town Public Relations Specialist Renée B. McCue said the parking restrictions aim to reduce late-night parking by employees and customers on neighborhood streets in the area, specifically south of Farmington Avenue and west of LaSalle Road.Restrictions include prohibited parking at all times for certain blocks, on one side of the road, and two-hour parking from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., not after 11:00 p.m., on the other side of the road.
McCue says residents will be able to seek overnight parking omits from the Police Department in the same manner as the past. These omits would be allowed on the side of the street where two-hour parking is allowed.
According to McCue, it was a year-long collaborative effort between the neighborhood and the town departments of Community Development, Public Works and police.
In a statement, McCue said, "The working group reached a consensus on two parking restrictions that were then vetted by the Town Council."
Town Manager Matthew Hart said, "With these restrictions in place, our hope is to encourage greater use of the parking lots and garages in the Central Business District, reduce late-night noise and lessen the congestion on neighborhood streets."
These restrictions will be implemented on portions of Arapahoe, Ellsworth, LaSalle, Pelham and Woodrow, according to a map of the plan.
McCue says signs will be installed over the course of three weeks beginning the week of December 9. McCue also says that staff will be monitoring the effectiveness of the restrictions and will be looking for any unintended impacts on adjacent streets.
Hart said, "The Town of West Hartford appreciates the public's patience as we seek to improve the quality of life in your neighborhood while balancing the demands of a very vibrant, commercial center."
